figure 1 & 1a First prep your parts of your motorcycle .Paint your parts a light aqua blue
or sky blue color depending on how dark you want the water to be.I found a few photos
of dolphins online for reference for the detail work. I laid the pattern stencils out on bike
for positioning ideas .Good to know where you are going.
figure 2 Use the negative stencil you made of your dolphin .using my Iwata CS I start
with a droyal blue color base, and work the dark shadows of my picture i build up the
color slowly so i don't get too dark to fast. Switching to a purple candy color i shade the
blue to give it a rich color.
figure 3 After i have done all the dolphins in blue and purple i use white with a little blue
still in cup to make the lines on top of the dolphins so they look like the sun in reflected
on them thru the water .Use your refence pic for shape and form and even shadow, but
you may have to change colors so they all look right in the new picture you are forming.
figure 4 Use your positive stencil to make the fins soft but sharp
figure 5 Don't use all the same size dolphins. Make it look like you have some in the front and some in
background. Keep in mind closer is sharper and more detail, farther off you see less and more shadows.
figure 6 Remove all your stencils from the bike when done, but don't damage them. You may need to use
them later on.
figure 7 Clean your work with a tack rag to remove all dust and overspray.
figure 8 Reload the royal blue into your airbrush, and starting at the bottom or work make you dark water.
Careful not to get on top of you dolphins to much. Use the positive mask you made as a free hand mask
to keep the color off if you need too. For the coral i kept it simple using a dark blue and a sea sponge
from art store to dab color onto the bike by hand . The rays of light are just white base paint streaked
down from the proper areas of the bike. Highlight any other items in pic that need white like bubbles,
dolphins, fish, Etc.
figure 9 Swap to black base and i free hand the coral around the bottom of the bike edges. I finsh of
other areas like the eyes and shadows while i have my black loaded up.
figure 10 Clean your surface again with a tack rag. You will thank me later.
figure 11 Do all the parts with the same method and colors unless you want to change them to suit
customers needs
figure 12 Using the sponge again I mixed up some seafoam green color and dabbed it on with sponge
to give a little color on top of the dark blue . Be colorful the ocean has a lot of color on the reefs
figure 13 The rest of my bubbles are added to the water then highlighted.
figure 14 Load up the purple candy and use in the lower areas to deepen again where nessasary
figure 15 Well your panels are pretty much done, just clean them and put to the side for a bit. Time to
move to other parts of the bike . My customer wanted a dolphin below, and jumping out of the water so
we did the tank with above water scene
figure 16. I used the blue again for the water and dark sky. White base and a reference picture of the
moon.
figure 17. Guess what you get to draw another dolphine. Who woulda guessed that.
figure 18. I used black for a quick palm tree filled mountain on the other side of tank, and it is done.
figure 19. The customer wanted her nick name on side using my plotter i cut the name in a nice font
then used it to make a bubble style letter to fit the underwater motif.
figure 20 & 21. I finished of the rear seat cap with same and a few small dolphins and bubbles.
figure 22. The parts all go in for a good wipe down, and then 3 coats of high quality clear and all parts
get buffed after before reassembly.
